WHITEFOOT FARM

June, 2011
June arrived with what feels like an insurmountable list of tasks: turn the compost, work up fallow beds, get atop the weeds which are coming with gusto, harvest for market, care for the meat birds which seem to be doubling in size each day, get new beeswax foundation in place for the newly hived honey bees, and transplant, transplant, transplant. Everything is ready to go into the ground now that fear of frost has passed. The peas are climbing the vines and beginning to flower in preparation for the setting of fruit later this month (it's nice to have peas by July 4th) and time to get the beans in the ground: yellow wax, maxibel haricot verts, jade bush, and velour--a lovely deep purple bean that turns to light green when cooked.
